red farmhouse
After the owners purchased this home on a wooded lot in Hinsdale, they were determined to turn its liabilities into assets. The bland exterior was all but hidden behind a wall of trees, but an exterior face lift and an infusion of color transformed its character from a bland suburban box into a lively farmhouse. Before the construction, the front entry was nearly hidden. The entry now sports a standing seam copper roof with brackets and a decorative lantern. The copper roof continues over to the garage where a master suite was added with dormers and a cupola to complete the farmhouse look. Similar transformations took place inside where a new kitchen continues the feel of country chic. A number of color studies were done for the exterior before the selecting the final combination, which gave the house pizzazz with sophistication.
